Trace & control

I went to National Geography coffee shop.
And there was a table which has been left traces of all different cups.
I thought that trace can be controlled by object, so I'm planning to experiment about that.

Leave a trace 5

Sixth stage. In this stage, I wanted to observe the changing pattern of hot chocolate.
It was interesting that the pattern of hot choco is running down and lt left a pattern.
And I made a same pattern using a latex.

It can be used as a coaster.

And then I drunk this by several time.
As time goes by, it made layers by hot chocolate.

In this stage, I thought someting that objects leave a trace which can leave a specific pattern.

Definition of Trace

 Trace :
1.find someone or something that has disappeared by searching for them carefully.
2.To find the origins of when something began or where it came from.
3.To study or describe the history, development or progress of something.

흔적 : 어떤 현상이나 실체가 없어졌거나 지나간 뒤에 남은 자국이나 자취
( the marks or signs after passing or disappearing something.)

Dictionary of Longman and naver

I think trace isn't fixed rather than can be changed to others.

Jacque Derrida

The trace is not a presence but is rather the simulacrum of a presence that dislocates, displaces, and refers beyond itself. The trace has, property speaking, no place, for effacement belongs to the very structure of the trace… In this was the metaphysical text is understood; it is still readable, and remains read.

In Writing and Difference by Jacque Derrida, French Philsopher

Leave a trace 4

I wanted to leave a my trace at home.
This is my actions in reception.
While I'm doing something, I put luminous paint on finger and touch on cup, book, wall, mirror and chair.

And turn off the light.
I could see exactly where they are but the fingerprint was really small,
so it's hard to see in photo.

Leave a trace & remove it

This work is about leave and remove a trace.
While I record something, I remove it using a different material, rubber and whiteout.

Leave a trace 3

Actually I was trying to make a something by this order.
After pouring latex, I pop the balloon, so the latex will remember the shape of balloon.

First, I was trying to use a balloon and latex but the character of them are similar,
so it didn't pop.

Second, I was trying to use plaster and balloon.
It's better than before, but it's not the shape that I had expected.
Anyway using that, I made a lamp.

Leave a trace & remove it

Second stage for my work is about leave a trace & remove it.
I think that I have a lot of memories but lots of my memory has deleted from me,
so the reason why I tried to make that.

First one is what I record something and cut it which means leave a trace and remove it.
Second one is about Yiheyuan that was built by digging and piling to make lake and hill.
This is also the action to leave a trace and remove it in space area.
Last one is my face and remove half of it, so it looks like profile.

Leave a trace 2

This work is also series of leaving a trace.
First one is what I dropped coffee and made a pattern using the trace.
It means that I made a trace and the trace made a pattern.
Second one is my objects in a bag and I drew a pattern of them.

Leave a trace

Trace of cup

First stage to develope my work is just trying to leave a trace using a object around me.
In this case, using 3 dffrent viscosity liquid-coffee, hot chocolate and nutella-
make a trace on 5 different papers.
This work was really interesting as eventhough I used a cup but the traces are all different.

Sascha Mikel

 Sascha Mikel, Original Stools

This work is Sascha Mikel's final project at kingston univ.
He put silicon, regin and colour into a ball which have a mold inside and
roll the ball on mountain, river, street and etc.

Whta I like is his words that the tool can remember his travel.

Nikolaus Gansterer

Nikolaus Gansterer - traces of spaces time drawings, 2010-2011

He draw a picture using wind.
He tie a flag to top of pen, so wind will draw a picture.
I like this kind of work that have interesting process.

Jorge Luis Borges

What will die with me when I die? What
pathetic or frail form will the world lose? Perhaps the voice of Macedonio Fernandez, the image of a horse in the vacant space at Serrano and Charcas, a bar of sulfur in the drawer of a mahogany desk?

Jorge Luis Borges, THE WITNESS, 1967

Whenever I get gloomy or depressed of something, I think about his words.
What will be disapeared, if I die?
Accoding to him, a girl who like to drink a coffee, a girl who like to record something, a girl who really like to go southbank area....etc.
Alot of girl will be disapeared, so I feel like as if my existence is in everywhere.
In another words, I think every actions of people leave their own memory and trace in everywhere.

Abigail Reynolds

Abigail Reynolds , series of The Universal now, 2010

This work is by Abigail Reynolds, based in UK.
This is also kind of same place and different time.
Using a two same place photo that was taken different time, she cut and tiled.
It's like a collage.

Bruno Munari

Bruno Munari, Serching for comfort, 1950

Yves Klein

This is by Yves Klein, one of my favorite artist.
He focused on not only output but also processing, the reason why I like the works.
When he draw painting, he usually use a human body or fire like a performance.

Gino Severini

Dynamic Hieroglyph of the Bal Tabarin, 1912

The Blue Dancer, 1912

These two painting are futurism by Gino Severini.
I like the works which have a process or movement, so they are good example of that.
He draw them like a cubism, so they can be shown more dynamic and we can see movement in the picture.

Blurred memory

03. April. 2011 at Regents park

16. April. 2011 in Paris

My work is started from my habit and around me.
These two picture are my momory which were taken in regent park and paris.
Using a hundred of photos that I took, I merged all of them.
They were photos but merged image looks like sketch or pattern.

I'm interested in...

Recording, Memory and Trace.

When I was a 10 years old, my father gave me a diary.
After then I've recorded something every day as writing, drawing and taking a picture.
Sometimes, I didn't record what I was doing, it feels like as if I lost the day.
The reason why I'm interested those words and the things what I saw, listened, felt and etc are really important for me.
